Environmental Conditions: Temperature, Humidity, and Light Control
1. Temperature Range: The ambient temperature for cable storage should be maintained between -10℃ and 40℃ (refer to GB/T 2951-2008 standard). Excessive temperature will cause insulation aging, while temperatures below -10℃ may cause the PVC outer sheath to crack.
2. Humidity Requirements: Relative humidity should be ≤70% (IEEE 1185 recommendation). A humid environment easily causes copper cable oxidation or optical fiber mold growth; warehouses should be equipped with dehumidifiers or desiccants.
3. Light Protection: Ultraviolet light accelerates the degradation of rubber/plastic sheaths, especially for outdoor cables, which should be covered with opaque materials.
Physical Protection: Avoid Mechanical Damage
1. Stacking Specifications:
- When the diameter of the power cable reel is ≥1.5 meters, stacking should not exceed 3 layers; when the diameter is <1.5 meters, stacking should not exceed 5 layers (according to IEC 60228).
- Communication cables must be placed vertically; flat laying and compression are prohibited.
Fire Prevention and Safety Measures
1. Fire Rating: The warehouse must meet the B1 flame retardant standard (GB 8624-2012). Flammable materials are prohibited from being stored there.
2. Zoning Management: High-voltage cables and low-voltage cables must be stored separately, with a spacing of ≥1 meter; communication cables must be stored in a separate area to avoid electromagnetic interference.
Special Cable Storage Guidelines
1. Fiber Optic Cables:
- Keep the ends clean and seal with dust caps.
- Tension must be <50N (Bell Labs test data) to prevent fiber core breakage.
2. Submarine Cables: Require constant temperature and humidity (20℃±2℃, humidity 50%±5%), and the anti-corrosion coating should be checked regularly.
Operational Recommendations:
- Check the cable sheath for cracks and mold every quarter.
- Use wooden pallets or supports to isolate the cable from the ground to prevent moisture penetration.
- Label the cable with the cable model, date of receipt, and permissible storage period (e.g., PVC cables typically ≤10 years).
